This summer, for the first time ever, American Ultimate Academy (AUA) teamed up with Washington DC’s Department of Parks and Recreation to provide Ultimate Frisbee instruction in DPR’s summer sports camps. Known as multi-sport camps, young residents aged 8-13 learn how to play a variety of sports over the course of two weeks. AUA conducted 24 Ultimate Frisbee sessions, reaching over 100 talented young athletes.
AUA organized and ran the Ultimate Frisbee portion at three separate locations: Kenilworth (Ward 7), Fort Stanton (Ward 8) and Hearst (Ward 3). The 2 hour sessions were broken down into mini-games, team building activities and skill development. Before the final scrimmage, the kids lined up and got a taste of what Ultimate is really about, conditioning. The relay races ended up being one of the biggest hits of the camp! Players then suited up in AUA jerseys for a fun, full field scrimmage that left everyone in cheers.
Now that the summer is wrapped up, AUA will be continuing to provide opportunities for young players to learn and play the game of Ultimate. To keep up with AUA activities and the sport of Ultimate, follow along on our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
