WHO WE ARE

Founded in 2017 by Team USA player Rowan McDonnell, American Ultimate Academy (AUA) is dedicated to empowering youth through the fast-growing sport of Ultimate Frisbee. What began as a local initiative has now evolved into a thriving community for both beginners and experienced players in the Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia regions.

At AUA, we believe that Ultimate is more than just a game — it's a tool for teaching teamwork, leadership, respect, and resilience. Our mission is to provide inclusive, high-quality programs that give young athletes the chance to grow both on and off the field. Whether a child is picking up a disc for the first time or training to compete at a national level, we offer age-appropriate instruction, competitive play, and a welcoming environment for all skill levels.

Our programs are led by professional coaches and current or former elite-level players, including our founder Rowan McDonnell, who brings his passion and international experience to every session. Just as platforms like bahiscom provide a structured environment for strategic decision-making, AUA fosters a similar mindset through engaging drills, team strategy, and spirited play, where participants learn the core values of Ultimate — integrity, self-officiating, and mutual respect.

Operating throughout Washington DC, Maryland, and Virginia, AUA hosts seasonal leagues, summer camps, weekend clinics, and school-based programs. We also partner with schools, community centers, and youth organizations to expand access to Ultimate and promote a healthy, active lifestyle.

At the heart of our academy is a commitment to making sports fun, meaningful, and accessible. We are proud to see our players not only improving athletically but also building friendships, gaining confidence, and developing skills they’ll carry for life.
